Hejsa!
A bit of practical news about this newsletter: the next time I write to you, it will be called Stitches & Sketches, instead of Carina’s Craftblog. Because this is not my craftblog! My craftblog is being neglected over on my website! 😂
I have been thinking about a name change for quite a while but I couldn’t quite figure out what that new name might be. I finally found one that I like. If you are a paid subscriber you have already heard a bit about the process of finding the name.
Apart from the name, there won’t be any changes, you will still receive a newsletter every other Friday (paid subs get a bonus newsletter every Tuesday) and I’ll still share the same kind of things. If you want more pictures of Blake, please leave a comment below! 😁
Something else I have been thinking about: would you be interested in learning about the process of writing a craft book?
In 2019 (while working on my latest book), I started writing a few tips on the process of making a craft book, that I thought I would share in a couple of blog posts. “A couple of blog posts” is currently an unedited document of 12,000 words (around 30 pages).
I originally set up this Substack to share some of that writing but then there were changes with my previous newsletter host and I decided to move the newsletter to Substack so I didn’t start the craft book writing thing. And there was a pandemic and other distractions.
So, I have those 12,000 words that may be of interest to other people (or maybe not?) I am considering starting an additional newsletter with this craft book writing content that you can subscribe to separately if you are interested.
Would you be interested in that? I know it’s kind of a niche subject but it’s not the world’s smallest niche? I guess?
A bit of nostalgia for my taste buds! I can’t remember what caused it but a couple of weeks ago I suddenly had a craving for a Danish cake called æblekage. Which means apple cake. Although it’s kind of a weird name because it isn’t actually a cake. It is more like a trifle. Layers of chunky apple sauce, breadcrumbs toasted with butter and sugar, and whipped cream. Not a single minute of baking involved!
It looks like a mess, but I was only making it for me, so I didn’t worry about the looks of it. And it was so tasty, everything I wanted it to be. It tasted of apples and blustery walks in the woods with my grandparents. Proper nostalgia food… Do you have foods like that? That immediately recalls memories of people, times, or places you haven’t thought of for ages?
I am still taking a daily picture of my desk and I am enjoying this random ‘project’ very much. I think I have been doing it for a month now. Not going to stop for the foreseeable future…
Have a lovely weekend!
x Carina
Some Things I Am Enjoying
Book: Ness* by Robert MacFarlane and Stanley Donwood. I am listening to the audio book and I can very much recommend that format for this book.
Book: Landmarks* by Robert MacFarlane. Yes, I’m on a bit of a MacFarlane kick at the moment. Have you read any of his books?
Watching: We have started watching The Chelsea Detective. I like it, it’s not too gritty. Maybe it falls in the ‘cosy crime’ category?
Music: The 1999 album by Prince.
