Hejsa!
I’m back, baby! :-D
I’m so glad I listened to my body and took some time to relax and recover after covid. It was a pretty rough time. I think some people get over it pretty quickly? And some people don’t…
It is so good to be back to normal!
During my time off, I worked slowly on the Lughnasadh pages for my Wheel of The Year project. It is almost finished, it just needs the hand stitching on the lettering. But unfortunately that will have to wait because I have strained my right thumb (possibly when heaving a suitcase) so I can’t do any hand embroidery. Pretty annoying.
I am very happy with how the pages look, although maybe it would have been nice to have some more lavender flowers, but never mind. I really like how the strawberries have turned out. I wasn’t sure how it would work stitching the seeds on the machine but I think that looks ok. I wish that I had padded the rye ears to make them look at bit more 3D but I guess I know that for next time I need to appliqué a field of rye! :-)
Something a bit weird happened the other day. I was watching a video by someone who went to this year’s Festival of Quilts. I was half looking at the screen and half looking at my phone but I happened to glance at the screen as the video panned across…my embroidery?!
It is my Nature’s Jewels pattern. What is a stitched version of it doing at the Festival of Quilts in a stall by a company I have nothing to do with? I can’t tell from the video if it is just for display. Which is not cool when they haven’t asked for permission and especially since there doesn’t seem to be any credit with my name or website.
Why is it there? It is so weird! I hope they are not selling the pattern because that is a big no-no. I can’t see it for sale on their website, so I’m hoping that it is just a display piece. But why are they displaying someone else’s pattern? Without talking to them first?!
I have emailed the person who shared the video and asked if she remembers whether they were selling the pattern. I hope I hear back from her.
I’m not sure what to do in this situation. If I don’t hear back from the person who shared the video, I guess I’ll have to email the company. Which I don’t want to do because that feels very confrontational. But on the other hand, they are using my pattern in a business setting and they didn’t even agree with me beforehand that they could do that! WTF?!
Tony said I should email Festival of Quilts to let them know about it but that seems like a pretty radical first step!
What would you do?
Well, for now I’ll not think about it and enjoy the weekend. It’s going to be nice weather so maybe I’ll sit in the garden and read. :-)
I hope you have a lovely weekend!
x Carina
P.S. Here is a Spotify playlist for August. A nice, mostly mellow, eclectic mix. :-)
I agree with Tony: Notify Festival of Quilts. Quite frankly they should be embarrassed that they're not vetting their vendors properly. Even though this display was part of a retired sample sell-off to raise money for charity, that's no excuse for this vendor. (See this Facebook link about this ...

Additionally, are you absolutely sure that they're not using some of your older patterns for their preprinted items. I've been following you for a good while and it seems like parts of several of her designs skirt really close to your designs. Just a thought ...
Also, so sorry that you have to go through this. Despite all the good that's come out of digital technology, it seems like lately there's been way more bad for all of us creatives. Hope you're able to have good resolution from this!
