This past weekend we finally hit the sweet spot between not too windy and not too hot (and also not raining!) so we could sit in the garden. It was lovely. Tony was reading, Blake was napping in the grass, then in the shade, then back to the grass etc.
I also was reading a bit but I spent most of the afternoon cutting some stamps. And what a delightful way to spend an afternoon! Doing something creative while sitting outside and listening to a wren singing nearby.
I don’t think I have noticed (not that I am very good at identifying birds) a wren in previous years. It has a delightful song.
I use the Merlin bird identifying app to help me figure out which birds are singing near our house. It is delightful to discover that there are more than just the starlings, magpies and house sparrows that I can easily identify.
According to the Merlin app, here are the birds on my so-called ‘Life List’: Common Wood-Pigeon, Eurasian Collared-Dove, Eurasian Magpie, European Robin, Eurasian Blue Tit, Eurasian Wren, House Sparrow, European Greenfinch, European Starling. Isn’t that lovely?!
Thinking about all these birds has reminded me of a pattern I made a few years ago:
The Wild Rose Warbler pattern. I really enjoyed making this pattern. There is a lot of satin stitch in my version but of course other stitches can be used. 😃
And now I’m kinda thinking maybe I should make some more bird related patterns? Maybe something inspired by the birds I hear in the garden..? Maybe?

One Thing I Am Enjoying
Book: The Roads To Rome: A History* by Catherine Fletcher. It’s not a book about how the Romans built roads and what stones they used. It is about which places the roads connected and the people who used them, both in Roman times and later. Very interesting.

I listened to the audiobook and I tend to do that for most non-fiction books I want to read, especially if they are very long books. Because when I’m reading with my eyes, I can’t embroider or sew at the same time. With audiobooks I can enjoy a book at the same time as I am stitching. I like that combination! :-)
Tony says that audiobooks are not real books. To that I say rubbish!
In Danish we have this word: lyttelæse. It means to listen-read. I think it is a very good word. Because when you listen to an audiobook you are reading a book, just with your ears instead of your eyes. And why should one be better than the other? To me, the word lyttelæse also has a vibe of paying more attention. I’m reading by listening, yes, but I am also really listening to the content. I don’t know if that makes sense?
