Chain Mail Ducks
Plus patchwork and peonies...
Hey friends,
This will be short and sweet because I am working on a quilt top which must be finished by Tuesday. I’ll tell you more about it next time! :-)
Off cuts from the quilt top, I really like this mess of colours.
Speaking of quilts, I had borrowed a book with textiles from the V&A from the library and one of the textiles was a patchwork quilt where the central panel had these ducks:
I don’t know why they stopped me in my quacks tracks. They are just so fun! When I shared the photo on Bluesky, someone commented that they look like they are wearing chain mail and now I can’t un-see it. Maybe they are off on a ducky crusade of some kind. :-)
Right, I better get back to my quilt top-
Have a lovely weekend!

Some Things I Am Enjoying
Book: Normally Weird and Weirdly Normal - My Adventures in Neurodiversity* by Robin Ince. Fascinating book, whether you have personal experience with neurodivergence, or you’re just interested. I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Ince, which have some extra bits. I got the audiobook through my library app but if you want to buy (and you want an alternative to Amazon), I recently came across a UK audiobook site/app called XigXag and the book is available there too.
Music: A Danish radio station is compiling a Top100 of songs by Danish acts. Listeners could nominate songs which were made into a (long) short list of 400 songs which people can vote on to make the final list. I went through the whole list and made my own (shorter) short list of 35ish songs. As I’m writing this, on Friday morning, I am nowhere near having selected the five songs I can vote for… But I am very much enjoying listening to the songs. There may be some singing along coming from my quilt perch!

Some Interesting Things on The Internet
Jon McNaught website. I really like his work. I may treat myself to a copy of his graphic novel, Hors Scène, at some point. Although it is in French. :-)
’AI simply can’t replicate it’: Japan embraces zine trend.
This ebook sounds fascinating: Inks & Paints of the Islamic Golden Age by Joumana Medlej. “A handbook of materials and book arts technology of the medieval Islamic world, for artists and art lovers alike.”
This article about artist Ruth Asawa’s flower drawings inspired me to draw a bouquet of peonies in a similar style. It was an interesting exercise but I think I feel more at home in a less detailed way of drawing. Maybe I am just too impatient… :-)

Omg, it does look like those ducks are wearing chain mail hoods! That’s adorable.
Oh, those flowers drawings could take me down a rabbit hole !
