Glædelig Jul!
Happy Winter Solstice! A couple of days late, but there we go. :-)
At this time of year I like to stop and reflect on the year that’s passed but this year I’m finding it difficult to find that quiet time. The world is a whirlwind and it feels like it’s intruding even when I’m not watching the news or looking at Twitter or whatever.
I need to find some time over the Christmas holidays to sit quietly with some embroidery and maybe my Calm playlist. Switch off.
One thing I will be stitching is a new project I have started, inspired by the Celtic Wheel of The Year. I really like this idea of dividing the year into more than four seasons (there are eight in the Wheel). It makes sense to me. There aren’t hard lines between spring and summer in reality so why do we look at it like that? With eight seasons the lines are more blurred and I like that.
You are welcome to join me in the project. It will take a year to finish, with a new pattern released approximately every six weeks. But the patterns are reasonably quick to stitch so it’s not a big time commitment. I’m really looking forward to it. It will be a prompt to tell me to just stop for a bit every few weeks, to take note of the seasons and enjoy it. Join the Wheel of The Year club here. Or get the first pattern for free to see what it’s all about first. :-)
Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and that is the main celebration for Danes so I’m taking the day off. Which is why you are receiving this on a Thursday.
In Danish we call the 23rd of December lillejuleaften which means ‘little Christmas Eve’. It’s a day for starting the preparations for the main celebrations but in a chilled laidback kind of way. Decorate the tree if it’s not done already, make some marzipan sweets, bake some Christmas biscuits or make risengrød that is the basis of risalamande, the traditional Danish Christmas dessert. Basically it is a day of Christmas hygge. :-)
Before I can hygge though, I’m going to clean the house. But then I’m going to hygge to the max!
Wishing you peace and joy through this holiday season, and a happy new year.
Glædelig Jul!

P.S. If you need some last minute paper decorations, I have posted a couple of tutorials on my blog: Paper garlands and Woven paper hearts.
