Help Me Make A Quilt?
"Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don't forget your booties 'cause it's cooooold out there today."
Hejsa!
Remember how I said that the Groundhog Day quilt replica was going to be my side quest this year? And not my main obsession focus? Guess who has already drawn up a pattern for the main part of the quilt? And sewn a test block?!
It’s me. Of course it is. :-D
I am still figuring out exactly what is going on with the border of the quilt but I guess that’s a story for another day. Anyway, did I mention that I re-watched the film so I could stop and take a closer look when the quilt was in shot? Well, I did and it was very educational.
I am excited. I want to make this quilt, I can’t wait. Although I am waiting until an online quilt shop has a sale on Kona cotton for the white area, that just makes financial sense. ;-)
In the mean time, I was wondering if you would like to be a part of this quilt?
The thing is: the quilt requires a lot of 2.5” squares. More than a thousand. Quite a lot more than a thousand. So I am hoping that some of you, fellow Groundhog Day fans, would be interested in contributing some squares in exchange for a copy of the pattern for the quilt.
I am not asking because I need fabric, goodness knows I don’t! But I don’t have a lot of fabric with…the vibe I’m going for to replicate the GD quilt. To me it looks like the quilt is made from a lot of feed sack fabrics and it has a nice vintage floral feel to it.
Vintage vibe florals just isn’t something I have a lot of. And with contributions from other people the quilt would really have that ‘put together from scraps saved over decades’ feel. At least that’s what I’m hoping!
The contribution I am looking for is 25-30 cut 2.5” squares in bright floral fabrics. Preferably with a vintage-y feed sack vibe. It is important that the squares are already cut to size when I receive them because another reason for asking for contributions is also so I don’t have to cut 1,500 squares myself.
(I know, there are ways to strip piece things so it would be less arduous but that would make it less random!)
If you would like to be a part of this nerdy project, sign up here (it’s free, of course!)
I have no idea if anyone would actually be interested. Maybe a couple of people? Ten perhaps? We’ll see… :-)
Have a lovely weekend!
x Carina
P.S. Can you spot the square I sewed in wrong side up? :-D
Some Things I Am Enjoying
Embroidery! I have been working on an embroidery, that may become a pattern, and one day while I was working on it, I realised that I was feeling really happy. Just a feeling of joy because I was stitching by hand. I have missed it so much. :-)
Book: Vegan Pantry: 10 Staple Ingredients, 100 Plant-Based Recipes* by Katy Beskow. I actually got a bunch of vegan cookbooks from the library but this one has the most promise. As in: has recipes I’d actually make. Do you find that with cookbooks? A lot of them are full of recipes for stuff I’d never eat. Breakfast sections especially annoy me. I don’t want to cook in the morning, I want something quick so I can get started with my day. And I prefer eating the same thing most days: uncooked porridge oats with soy milk and a sprinkle of sugar. :-)
Watching: We have watched an episode each of High Potential and Whiskey on The Rocks. Very different shows but they seem promising. Have you watched any of them?
Music: We recently bought a turntable and yesterday the vinyl version of Taylor Swift’s Folklore album arrived in the mail. I’m looking forward to listening to it this weekend. :-)

Some Interesting Things on The Internet
Flower rubber stamps. So pretty. Very tempting but I don’t know that I would actually use them for anything… :-)
Prixel. This rubber stamp kit looks fun but it is pretty pricey…
Colourful trainers for kids. But I have small feet so I could buy them. In theory. :-D
Homemade Sauce Tricks Explained: Old World Quality on YouTube. I tried this recipe and it is very nice. Just wish I had added more garlic. ;-)
198 Methods of Non-Violent Action from the Albert Einstein Institution.
How Hitler Dismantled a Democracy in 53 Days. What a cheerful thought to start the weekend, eh? But we gotta keep our eye on these things…
