Hoop Guts And Acorns
Hey friends,
It is half past nine in the morning, on Thursday, August 25th, as I am writing this. Through the open window comes a slight breeze, cooled by the rain we have had on and off since early-early this morning. I was woken up by loud thunder around 4 AM. I enjoyed watching the lightening and listening to the thunder rumble in the distance while the rain was making a mini waterfall as it overflowed the guttering.
Through the window comes also the sound of slick-slick-slicker of passing cars. A sign that it is properly wet out there! And we have sorely needed proper rain for a long time.
For the past couple of weeks I have noticed that many trees are looking a bit worse for wear. The leaves are looking brown and dry, some trees have already started dropping their leaves. It feels odd. Off kilter. ‘My’ oak tree seems to be doing ok. It certainly has lots of acorns, I think it is a mast year. I look forward to the sound of acorns crushing under foot… A delightful autumnal sound. :-)
The back of the ABC sampler. I like looking at the back of my embroidery, the so-called hoop guts. There are usually some interesting textures or patterns happening. Things you could have made on purpose because they’re just there, happening all serendipitously on their own. I really like the texture of the blue knot tails. Very tactile. :-)
Still stitching away on the sampler. I feel in a bit of a hurry. I want to finish it before I start filming tutorials for the ABC sampler class. I can’t wait to share the finished sampler, I am enjoying this project so much. :-)
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
x Carina
Some Things I Am Enjoying
Watching: The Keeping a Sketchbook: A Daily Practice class on Creativebug, taught by Mariko Jesse. Very inspiring and she is lovely to listen to.
Instagram: @mariko.jesse Her art has a quirkiness and a lightness to it which I really love.
Music: The Still album by Bryde. I may have mentioned it before but it is just so good. I keep humming fragments to myself. :-)
Going Back In Time: I was wondering what I wrote about on my blog in August five years ago. I released two patterns! Summer in A Jar and Gloriana. I also posted a few stitch tutorials, like the cloud filling stitch. Such a fun stitch!
