Hejsa!
The other morning we woke up to frost on the roofs of the garages behind our house. April being its own mad self I guess…
A bit of housekeeping: until the autumn, I’ll write these posts every other Friday. The (paid) Tuesday posts will be (mostly) weekly, except for May where they will alternate with the Friday posts. There is stuff I need to get done, and not enough time or headspace to get it done, so something’s gotta give…
I am also considering changing the name of this newsletter/publication/whatever you want to call it. Carina’s Craftblog is a bit…boring? I have an idea for a potential new name…let’s see if I decide to change it. :-)
At the moment I am editing photos into blog posts from 2014 and I am coming across a bunch of patterns I released that year: Love Grows Here - Parterre de l’Eau - Flutterby Garden - Flower Crown Reverie - Lollipop Gingerbread House.
Yes, I always have fun finding names for the patterns. 😀
My favourite pattern from that year is this one: Las Flores De Frida.
I love Frida Kahlo and I loved making this pattern. I even wrote a couple of ‘making of’ blog posts about it (here and here). Other people really liked the pattern too. But then a few years later I got an Etsy message from the Frida Kahlo Corporation telling me in no uncertain (legal) terms that I couldn’t sell that for copyright or trademark reasons or whatever it was. Yikes.
I think a lot of other people got similar messages too. And by the sounds of it, the FK Corporation was more interested in how they would be able to profit from selling rights to using Frida’s name than actually protecting her legacy… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think it is possible to sell work with Frida’s portrait because what the FK Corporation has copyright or trademark on is the name. So as long as you don’t put her name in the title/description it should be fine. I think. Still not sure I’m willing to risk my Etsy shop by putting the pattern back there..
The question is… do I return it to being publicly available in my own shop, with some modifications to the description and maybe the name..? Still not sure. But the Las Flores pattern is available here, for those who know how to find it. 😁
I am starting the weekend early, with cake and (I hope!) some flowers from Tony because today is my birthday. 🍰 I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Some Things I Am Enjoying
Book: Alison* by Lizzy Stewart. This book was not at all what I thought it would be, but in the best possible way. It was surprising and emotional and I wish that it were longer. It is a graphic novel and I really loved the illustrations/artwork. It is actually a really interesting mix of regular paragraphs combined with ‘comic book’ layouts. I need to read more of Lizzy Stewart’s books now! :-)
Watching: Beyond Paradise. Beyond the characters and the story of each episode, what I really like is how the production makes very good use of landscape and weather, combined with excellent music choices.
Music: Hand Me Down album by Kate Rusby.

Glad you enjoyed your birthday 😁 Sorry to hear about your Frida pattern, I remember you releasing it and thinking how fab it was ~ happy to know I can still purchase it with it’s new name
Happy days to you Carina!! I hope you had a lovely birthday.
