Joining Squares
Stitching hope...
Hejsa!
How are you? I really should be stitching, working on the project I am working on for someone else. But I thought I’d better write to you today (Tuesday) because on Friday, when I’d usually be writing, we’re having some work done in the house. Which will be disruptive in more ways than one. Strangers in the house! And they will need to turn of the electricity for an unknown amount of time. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?
My plan for Friday is to sequester myself and Blake in my sewing room so I can hopefully get some work done on that project in relative peace and quiet. And Blake can hopefully settle down…
I can’t remember if I shared this yet? Many years ago, I posted a tutorial for (seamlessly) joining crochet granny squares on my blog. It is still the most visited post, some 15 years later!
Occasionally, I get requests for a video version and now I have finally made that! So if you have been wondering how to join your granny squares, this tutorial may work for you. :-)
I found a scrap of this fabric that I have had in my stash for atleast 11 years. I used the fabric in the Cloud quilt I made in 2014. I wish I could remember the name of the designer. I feel like it is right on the tip of my tongue but…I can’t quite grasp it.
Anyway, I used the scrap to make this little brooch. The bird and the cloud and the colours seemed like the perfect combination.
I am pleased that the UK, and a few other ‘important’ countries, have finally recognised the state of Palestine in the past week. About time! Of course, recognising a state and still exporting weapons and other things that aid the state that is committing genocide on the people of Palestine is quite the cognitive dissonance…
I hope you have a lovely weekend!
x Carina
Some Things I Am Enjoying
Book: Lightfall: The Girl & the Galdurian - A Graphic Novel* by Tim Probert. I continue my enjoyment of graphic novels. I have only just started reading this one but it is giving me Terry Pratchett vibes and that is not a bad thing!
Another book: Flora & Ulysses - The Illuminated Adventures* by Kate DiCamillo and K. G. Campbell (illustrations). It’s a children’s book but adults can read those too and this one is delightful.
Watching: Whitstable Pearl.
Music: The September playlist. It’s a mix-y mixed mix, with atleast four languages represented. One them I don’t understand but that is ok, you can still enjoy music even of you don’t understand the words. :-)

I really like the work by artist Molly Lemon. Also, what a fabulous name! :-)

Book: Intelligent Hands - Why making is a skill for life* by Charlotte Abrahams and Katy Bevan. “The authors are on a mission to enlighten the uninitiated and persuade the nay-sayers who dismiss craft as no more than a nice hobby or believe that doing things with your hands is for those who can't use their heads.”
Fair Isle paper tape. One of each, please! :-)

Thank you for the YT vid. Will check it out. 🌸🌺👍
Oooh the pink and orange squares are gorgeous, and thanks for sharing the link to the fairisle tape. I fancy a roll of the yellow and black design.
