Hey friends,
Over my years of stitching, I have accumulated quite the collection of random little embroideries and other textile-y, hand stitch-y things. For a long time they were just scattered in various drawers and boxes. But no more! Because I have turned them into a (not so) little textile book. I’m so excited to have them collected like this where I leaf through them and maybe get inspired to make other things.
I have shared a video of the book over on YouTube where I talk a little bit about each page in the book. Take a look here.
Making the book has actually already inspired a new project: my next 100 day project! I am going to make another textile book, this time on purpose. The official start date for that is next Wednesday, February 22nd. And I thought maybe you would like to join me and make your own textile book?
So I have designed a project to make (I’m making it too) which is 24 pages that will each be filled with a creative, stitchy prompt. The prompts will be shared every few days but you don’t have to finish each prompt/page in a set amount of time. It is okay to take more than 100 days to finish the project. :-)
This is not a class or a course, it’s “just” some fun prompts. But I will share inspiration in the form of photos of similar things I have made and I will find links to tutorials that will be useful for some of the techniques.
You don’t need to know loads of hand stitching techniques already. If there is a technique you don’t know, the tutorial links should help. And it is also completely fine to simply skip a prompt or two and do your own thing if a particular prompt doesn’t suit you. A 100 day project is supposed to be enjoyable and you make the rules for what you put into it. :-)
There will be one tutorial at the end: to put all your lovely pages together into a book.
If this project sounds like fun, you can sign up for the prompts here. And if you join by Monday, February 20th, you can save 10% with this code: PROMPTS10 .
I am so excited to get started on this project! I do some kind of hand stitching most days but it still excites me after all these years. There is always something new to try, or something old to try in a new way. I think I will go and start preparing my project, cut some fabrics, gather some other materials (I may have ordered a bunch of beads and sequins for my book..!)
Have a lovely weekend! :-)
x Carina
Some Things I Am Enjoying
Book: The Dictionary of Lost Words* by Pip Williams. I have just started reading this book but I’m liking it so far. Have you read it?
Watching: Funny Woman. Set in the 1960s. We’ve only watched one episode so far. It seems good so far. I especially like how they have embedded characters into vintage footage so it looks like they are walking through the streets of London in the ‘60s.
Podcast: The Allusionist episode 170. Actively Passive.

Yay, this sounds like a lot of fun! I haven't been doing as much embroidery as I used to and have been looking for something to get my mojo back. The last project I finished, although I'm very happy to have finally finished it a couple months ago (and will be even happier once I finally get it mounted and on the wall!) was kind of a slog at the end. (There was so. much. running stitch.) This looks like it'll be just the kind of fun and less structured thing I need to get me going again.
