Mandalas in German!
You may know that I wrote a book called Mandalas to Embroider, it was published in 2018. To my great surprise, a couple of years ago it was translated into Japanese! Earlier this year I got an email from the publisher letting me know that next year it will be published in German! Completely unexpected. But I am delighted! As you know, I love languages and this German version I can actually read (not so much the Japanese version!) and I can actually learn German embroidery-related words by reading the German version of my own book. It’s kinda surreal! :-D
The German title is Farbenfrohe Mandalas sticken which means something like ‘embroider colourful mandalas’. For some reason they changed the cover for this version. But it’s still one of the beautiful original photos by Stacy Grant the excellent photographer for the book.
I received a few copies of the German version last weekend and I’ve put some in my shop if you’d like a signed copy (and it’s not officially published until early next year).
All the books in my shop are 10% off (no code necessary) until Monday, December 13th. This is also the last day to order to make reasonably sure that your order will arrive before Christmas if you are in the EU. (Unfortunately, most of the rest of the world may be too late, but you can still take a chance on it!)
And speaking of EU countries: I have decided to start posting there again, despite Brexit complications. I can’t make any guarantees that you won’t be charged VAT or customs duties; unfortunately it is outside my control. :-/
Something that is within my control is the state of my studio: right now it’s a mess so I think I’ll go have a little tidy up! :-D
I hope you have an excellent weekend! x Carina
Some Things I Enjoyed This Week
Walking back from the library yesterday, I sat on a bench for a couple of minutes, eyes closed, facing the sun. It was blissful. Cold but blissful. :-)
I’ve been wearing a ring I bought in Denmark. It is a daisy and it’s a very Danish sort of thing. I needed something physically, visibly Danish (even if only to other Danes) and I’m not brave enough for a tattoo, so a ring it is! :-D The daisy is our national flower and daisy is the nickname of the Danish Queen Margrethe. And indeed the daisy jewellery is inspired by a gift given to her when she was just a baby.
Yesterday I spent most of the afternoon and evening catching up on my 2021 Temperatures embroidery project. I’m still about two weeks behind but I’m getting there. This project has felt kind of never ending at times but now the ending is quite literally in sight.
From The Archive
In the shop: Frida Kahlo pattern from 2014. One of my all time favourites. :-)
On the blog: I wrote a couple of posts about the making of the Frida pattern. Post 1 and post 2.
