Hey friends,
This week I have been working on a photo book for 2020. I mean to do one for every year but somehow never get round to it. I last made one for 2010! But 2020… It felt important to have a record of that strange year. There are certainly things I’d like to forget about 2020 but there are also things I want to remember.
So I’m making my personal record of the year. I have found the process kind of emotional. Especially looking at the photos from the first lockdown. The empty streets, closed businesses. Queueing outside the supermarkets, wearing face coverings. All the feelings of uncertainty came back and I felt quite unsettled for a day or so…
As emotional as it was, I’m glad I’m making this album. I think we need to remember that year. The people who worked so hard to staunch the tide of the virus, the people who passed away. And quite frankly, we must also remember the politicians and others who let us down in so many ways.
Looking at my photos from last year, there are already things I had forgotten. And some things that are still very vivid in my mind. The things I remember the most are little things. Spending time with Tony. A funny thing that happened on a walk with Blake. Since we did very little outside the home, those little moments stand out even more. Maybe that is one thing I can take away from 2020: pay more attention to, and treasure, those moments of little significance because maybe, by accumulation, they are some of the most important.
2020 was a sad and awful year in many ways but working on this photo album I am reminded that there were still moments of kindness and humanity. :-)
I hope you have a good weekend, be sure to notice the little things!

Some Things I Enjoyed This Week
Tony bought a stand mixer and he promptly made us a nice baguette which we ate while it was still warm and the butter was melting. So good!
We have started watching a show called For All Mankind. The premise is that the Russians made it to the Moon first and how that affected NASA etc in the US. It’s really interesting.
Watching a short film in which one of my friends in Denmark has a part. I haven’t seen her in a few years so it was lovely to ‘see’ her. And it was also a little strange because it was my friend but she was of course playing a role so in a way it wasn’t her. I miss my Danish friends… ♥
