I love hawthorn trees. The cascades of white blossom and the scent. The scent!
Whenever I smell it, I get strong flashbacks to a particular time in my life where the days where getting longer and warmer and the hawthorn scent was in the air as my friends and I walked to school. But because Denmark is a bit behind England when trees etc are blossoming, the scent makes me think of late May/early June. So every year I am always slightly confused because my brain is telling me “hey, smell that hawthorn, it must be June!”
The scent makes me nostalgic for that time. And makes me miss my friends in Denmark. Happily I am still friends with some of my school mates and it is a joy to see them whenever I can.
The best paintings of hawthorns are the ones by David Hockney. They are good enough to make me smell them! :-)
Have a lovely weekend, friends; I hope you get a chance to see and smell a hawthorn or two!

I agree. I love hawthorns. They have something to give in every season and we have a huge old one in our garden. The only time I have a disagreement with the tree is late spring when the blossom is thick and I start sneezing with the pollen!
