Hejsa!
Does it feel like summer where you are? If you are in the northern hemisphere of course… It doesn’t here. It has been pretty cool, and rainy. Yesterday it was so cold in our house that it triggered the heating to come on. In the afternoon! In June! I can’t wait for proper summer to arrive so I can put away the cardigans and the long sleeve t-shirts…
I have mentioned my ongoing project where I am moving Flickr hosted blog photos to my own domain several times and how much of a drag it is. Well, because I have been pretty diligent about working on it, I am almost done! When I started working on this, I had 13 years worth of blog posts to go through and now it’s down to just over one year! It is still a drag but at least now I can see the end of it. And I am also happy that a bonus effect of all the broken links being fixed in this process.
And in the process I also keep coming across projects from the past. Sometimes I had completely forgotten about this or that project so it’s fun to see them again.
One project that I am particularly glad to have come across again is an ebook I wrote a few years ago. It is called In Polar Bear Country. It is inspired by the flora and fauna of Greenland. Although I have never been to Greenland it is a place that has always been on my mind. My uncle lived there for many years and my cousins are half Greenlandic. When I was (much) younger I would always be asking my aunt to teach me words in Greenlandic. I think I can still remember a few…although, ‘merry Christmas’ is probably not terribly useful. Anyway, here is the ebook cover:
If you can’t see the aurora borealis you can stitch it, right? The polar bear is one of my favourite animals. I would love to see one in nature one day… At a safe distance of course! The Danish word for polar bear is ‘isbjørn’ which directly translates means ice bear.
Here are some more projects from the ebook:
The In Polar Bear Country ebook is available here.
I like all the projects I made for the ebook but I think one of my favourites is definitely the iceberg quilt top (top left). It is a very satisfying puzzle to put together and you can vary the look of it a lot depending on the colours you use. Here are some different icebergs. :-)
I also really like that fierce looking owl on the cushion with the striped edges (bottom left). 🦉
Over on YouTube I have started a fabric journal project with a weekly prompt (eight in total) to slow stitch through the summer. I hope you will join me! :-)
Some music to listen to while you’re stitching or washing up or relaxing with a book in the garden: June playlist on Spotify.
Have a lovely weekend!

Some Things I Am Enjoying
Book: Safer Places* by Kit Anderson. Part of my reading of graphic novels. Although this one is more a collection of shorter stories. It’s a bit odd but I enjoyed it. I went on our library website and found a graphic novel I had already read, then clicked on the graphic novel tag and put a hold on any that sounded interesting. So recently I have read several graphic novels. Some I really liked, some I didn’t like that much and some I didn’t even finish. If you stop reading a book you are not enjoying, then you have more time to read books that you do enjoy.
Another book: Salt Houses* by Hala Alyan. A novel that spans several decades, following one Palestinian family and how they keep having to move and rebuilding their lives in new places. It is very well written.
Music: Songs from the tv series We Are Lady Parts. (Possibly NSFW). I especially like the Malala Made Me Do It song. And Malala Yousafzai was even in the show! :-)
