Hey friends!
Happy start of meteorological autumn! Although it doesn’t feel very autumnal yet. But the rain that we are forecast for next week will probably take care of that! :-)
And right on cue, yesterday I found myself reeeeally wanting to cast on some kind of knitting project. Maybe this will be the year where I finally do something about the ‘get better at knitting’ item that has been on my yearly goals list for about 4 years.
But before I can even think about getting better at knitting, there is of course a sampler class to record and photograph and edit etc etc! I hope I can have some kind of provisional start date next week. But it depends on how it goes with the recording etc. We shall see. In the meantime, here is a sneak peek at my finished sampler:
I am so happy with how it turned out. And honestly, I can’t wait to do another sampler for the class recording. I am smitten with stitch samplers! :-)
When I haven’t been stitching, I have been upping my sketching time. We’re going on holiday later this month and I am determined to do a whole bunch of sketching while we’re away. So I am in sketch training! The more I sketch, the faster I get. And the faster I get, the more sketches I can do, right? :-)
And as with other skills, the more you do it, the more confident you feel about it. I want to get to a point where I look at a street scene, for example, and feel like ‘yes, I can draw that’ and know that it will be recognisable on the page.
It takes practice of course. Just like it takes practice to be able to make consistent French knots. But that can be enjoyable. I don’t think I have ever regretted spending time stitching, just like I am always glad when I spent a bit of time drawing. Make or do something creative and it is never a waste of time, and it always lifts my mood. :-)
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
x Carina
Things I Am Enjoying
Reading: Amongst Our Weapons* by Ben Aaronovitch. The latest novel in the Rivers of London series. I like urban fantasy, like this series, and I’m always looking forward to the next one.
Listening: Amongst Our Weapons. I’ll put it here too, because I didn’t read it with my eyes, I read it with my ears. The audio version read/performed(?) by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith is excellent. I think I’ll probably listen to the rest of the series, instead of reading it, because his performance is so good. Seriously, what word do you use to describe an audiobook when it’s not plain reading the text but using different voices/accents for various characters?

Eating: The last bag of sweets I bought in Denmark. Luckily, my parents are visiting in a few weeks so stocks can be replenished! The sweets are called Andemad (duckweed) and they have a salty liquorice flavour. Because that’s how Danes like their sweets. Salty liquorice and strange names. :-D
