Stitching Beltane
Sunday is Beltane in the Celtic year and I have started working on the Beltane pattern in the Wheel of The Year stitchalong. I think I have mentioned it before but I am really enjoying having the year divided into eight ‘chunks’ that are a bit longer than a month. A month can seem so short, can’t it? On the other hand, it can also seem very long. Time is relative and wibbly-wobbly…
Here is the Beltane embroidery so far. Well, actually, I did add a bit more yesterday after I took the photo. I am really happy with the effect of the fritillary flowers. The way it is stitched is a little bit fiddly, but I love the 3D effect it has added.
3D effects, or textures, in embroidery is something I have been thinking about recently. I doubt I’m going to go full-on stumpwork in my embroidery but it would be fun to add more dimensional textures to my work. Don’t know how, what or where…something to think about…
Join the Wheel of The Year stitchalong here if you want to create your own seasonal embroidery. :-)
Tomorrow I am teaching darning at The Village Haberdashery in London (as I’m writing this I believe there’s one spot left if you want to come along). I have made a page of various resources to share with the students and thought you might like it too. Check it out here: Darning Resources. I will be adding more to it occasionally.
I hope you have a lovely weekend. :-)
