Hello! Happy Summer Solstice!
If you have been following along for a while you know that I am working on an embroidery celebrating the eight seasons/festivals in the Celtic Wheel of The Year. And now I have added another one to the embroidery. Or rather, I’m working on it. Sitting in the garden, listening to the bees being busy in the wildflowers…
It makes me so happy to see the progress on this embroidery. It’s one thing to have an idea in your head, or on the computer, but seeing it in fabric and thread form is quite a marvellous other thing.
Join the Wheel of The Year stitchalong if you too want some seasonal stitchy happy stuff to look forward to. :-)
I had originally shared a silent video on YouTube of one of my textile books but someone asked if I would do another where I talked about the pages. So I did! If you would like to listen to me waffle on about some stitchy stuff for a few minutes check it out here:
Have a lovely weekend!
x Carina
Some Things I Am Enjoying
Book: I’ve got a couple of Gaz Oakley’s cookbooks from the library. I’ve enjoyed looking through them for inspiration. Will I actually try any of the recipes? Who knows! :-) Do you have any good vegan cookbook recommendations?
Watching: Africa Rising with Afua Hirsch on BBC iPlayer.
Music: The Manic album by Halsey.
Tony took this picture exactly 20 years ago, the very first time he came to Denmark to visit me. Why would he take a picture of a giant pile of pallets on a beach?
On June 23rd Danes have big, and small, bonfires all over the country to celebrate Midsummer (and ward off evil, that’s why there is a witch figure on top of the pile). It is a big thing in the Danish calendar! So as you can maybe imagine, I am feeling a little homesick. One thing you don’t realise before moving abroad is how much you will miss things like this. Maybe I will light a candle later, en lieu of a bonfire. :-)
When Tony came to visit me that first time obviously we had to do a bunch of sightseeing. One of the things we did was drive to the very top of Denmark, to a small town called Skagen (famous for a group of painters) where every year they have a large bonfire on the beach (hence all the pallets). And I think this was also the last time I went to a bonfire…maybe..? I know I haven’t been to one since I moved to England.
Memory lane, eh? Strewn with smooth glittery pebbles and rough stumbling blocks… :-)
