Hey friends,
We’re (almost) half way through April…time flies! In less than two weeks it’s my birthday, please keep your fingers crossed for nice weather! I’d really like to spend the day at Southend-on-Sea, a city at the mouth of the Thames estuary. On a sunny day, to walk along the water with sea air in my face and an ice cream in my hand. :-)
Speaking of weather, and temperatures, here’s how my 2023 temperature embroidery is coming along:
I do like seeing the squares slowly filling in. The Rhodes stitch is a very satisfying stitch to work. We shall not speak of how often I have to redo a square because I missed one of the individual stitches. :-D
Hey, so I use a website called Substack to send this newsletter and in many ways it’s more like a blog than a newsletter. Which I really like. It feels less…spammy. Yes, I use it to talk about new patterns and whatnot but I hope it doesn’t feel like I’m only using it to try and push my wares on you. Although you should obviously totally check out my embroidery patterns because a girl’s gotta make a living and stuff! ;-)
Anyway, if you use the Substack app to read the posts/feeds/news you want to follow, then it feels a lot like a blog reader (I still miss Google Reader!)
The other day Substack introduced a new feature called Notes that lives alongside the posts. It is shorter messages that you can reply to and like and repost and it feels a lot like Twitter. And to me it makes complete sense to have something-like-Twitter in the same app with something-like-blogs.
Notes was only rolled out to everyone a couple of days ago but it feels like a nice space so far. It could be an actual alternative to Twitter (which is going to Hell in a handbasket at an even faster pace after its purchase by El*n Musk.)
Long story short: it would be fun to have some stitch conversations in the Notes, so if you sign up to the Substack website and follow me there we can do just that! You don’t have to be a Substack writer to take part in the Notes conversations. I’ll post stitchy stuff in Notes and there will probably also be pictures of Blake. :-)
Hope to see you there!
Have a lovely weekend!
x Carina
Some Things I Am Enjoying
Book: The Hidden Life of Trees: What They Feel, How They Communicate* by Peter Wohlleben. It has taken me a while to finish this book. I enjoyed it but it also made me a bit sad because we humans do not always treat trees in a kind way. They are not just ornaments or commodities… Read the book, it is eye opening.
Music: Sara Zacharias (on Spotify) - a new to me Swedish artist.

This is such a fascinating project. I did a temperature blanket in 2020 (little did I know at the start of the year quite how much time I'd have to work on it). I turned out huge but I love the idea of something like this that's more portable/achievable
