Hey friends,
Happy Spring Equinox! Here is my almost finished Spring Equinox embroidery:
It has been so lovely to work on this the past few days. Dipping in an out, completing a couple of sections at a time. And looking forward to the outside world reflecting the green in the embroidery. Soon! (Join the Wheel of The Year stitchalong here.)
To my surprise I have started recording videos with short stitch tutorials and tips for the participants in the Wheel stitchalong. It comes with a couple of new learning curves: recording a decent-ish video AND learn how to edit the video as well. The editing bit is actually kinda fun, adding little creative touches, figuring things out.
And I’m kind of enjoying recording the videos? I never thought I’d say that! Well, it took a little white to get used to hearing my own voice outside my head. At first I was a little freaked out by it “is that really what I sound like?” I guess I do? :-)
When I’m editing the videos I kinda try to think of it as being someone else speaking and then it is less weird to listen to.
The videos only show my hands doing stitchy stuff, I’m not sure I’ll ever be keen to be in front of the camera, but we’ll see…maybe one day. For now I’ll remain a faceless entity with a (to me) strange voice. :-D
My 100 day project is moving along nicely, I am really enjoying it. My project is to complete a textile book with 24 pages, so every few days I finish a stitched page. I prepared a list of prompts and since I was doing that anyway, I decided to share them with anyone who wants to make a similar project (not necessarily in 100 days). If you would like to make your own stitchy textile book, you can get my 24 prompts here.
This is the prompt I finished yesterday, it was very enjoyable to work on. And to my surprise the main colour is purple, one of my least favourite colours, but I quite like it here. Purple with orange and yellow is a nice combination I think. Especially if I can sneak in a bit of pink too. :-)
Have a lovely weekend!
x Carina
Some Things I Am Enjoying
Book: London's Secret Square Mile* by David Long. I’ve read this book before but I guess I’m still slightly obsessed with the area of London called the City of London. It’s worth another read. :-)
Watching: Becoming Frida Kahlo - on BBC iPlayer. A fascinating series about one of my all time favourite artists. And to my astonishment there is film clips of her. I don’t think I have ever seen that before…
Blog/newsletter: My friend Julia has a lovely blog/newsletter called Sketches & Snippets which you should check out. Julia is an artist who lives just outside Edinburgh and she makes beautiful work with textiles and mixed media.
