If you’re a fellow introvert, you can probably relate to this: spending pretty much every waking moment with your other half (and/or children) during the various lockdowns has been kinda tough. Always someone there, talking to you, having the tv on in the background, listening to the radio. Etc etc.
Don’t get me wrong, I have enjoyed spending more time with Tony, and luckily he does understand my need for alone/quiet time, but sometimes it’s been A Lot. :-)
On Wednesday he was back in the office for the first time in 2-3 months and it was GLORIOUS! :-D
For about 10 hours I had the quiet house all to myself. No tv in the background, no music, I listened to a podcast for maybe an hour but that was the only sound in the house (apart from Blake’s snoring/barking).
And I spent an hour sitting on the sofa just staring into space while my mind wandered off in any direction it wanted to. And no one interrupted the seemingly idleness and my train of thought by asking what I was doing just sitting there.
Taking time to just let my thoughts wander is part of how I knock ideas into shape. And it’s difficult to hear the knocking when someone is interrupting me! :-D
Sometimes I feel kinda selfish for needing time on my own, but then I tell myself that that’s BS. We all need time alone, even the extroverts (I think?). I need that time on my own to recharge my energy, creatively and otherwise. And I’m just plain ol’ nicer to be around when I’m not feeling drained. :-)
Here’s to glorious times alone and glorious times with other people!
Wednesday was Imbolc in the Celtic calendar and I enjoyed my breakfast with lit candles to welcome the new season. Warm bannock and sunshine in a glass… :-)
I hope you have a lovely weekend. Tomorrow I’m teaching darning at The Village Haberdashery and I’m reaaally looking forward to that!

Things I enjoyed this week
Reading: London's Secret Square Mile* by David Long.
Listening: The Volume of Things album by Bryde.
Eating: Farinata. Delicious!
Following: k.j. turner on Instagram
Watching: The Gilded Age. To be honest, I’m probably mainly watching it for the clothes and interiors. I’m not sure the intrigues of rich people in 19th century New York can hold my interest for too long… Are you watching it? What do you think? :-)

Carina — I agree!! Time alone, peace and quiet, it’s food for the soul. Enjoy.
I love that even breakfast alone can be oh so special.
